Talk is prelude to symphony concert
Ruth Morrow will present an hour long talk Thursday as a prelude to the Wichita Falls Symphony’s season-opening concert Saturday.
The symphony will perform “Nanie” by Johannes Brahms and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony (“Choral”) during its 8 p.m. concert at Memorial Auditorium.
Morrow, Bolin Distinguished Chair of Piano at Midwestern State University, will present an hour long talk on Beethoven’s world in his later years and his compositional process. The free talk will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Forum, 2120 Speedway Ave.
School retirees to hear state rep
The Wichita Falls Area Association of Retired School Personnel will meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Region 9 Education Service Center. Lanham Lyne, District 69 state representative, will be the guest speaker. Members will be collecting children’s books and donations for the state Children’s Book Project each month until December. The group also is collecting nonperishable goods for Interfaith Ministries. Guests are welcome. Information: call Robert Neal at 691-5046.
Monthly Antelope Jamboree Saturday
The monthly Antelope Jamboree will be Saturday at the Antelope Community Center on Loop 187 in Antelope.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. Admission is $2 per person. The event will include music and door prizes. Concessions will be available.

Bowie to host Thursday workshop
Bowie Business Breakfast is partnering with Texas AgriLife to bring the Texas Friendly Hospitality workshop and certification training to Bowie on Thursday.
The Texas Friendly Hospitality Program provides customer service training workshops for managers and employees, community organizations and other groups. The workshop will be 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the Bowie Community Center. Cost: $10, includes breakfast; free for Bowie Chamber of Commerce members.
